Online image editing using Picnik.com

Posted by camthecameraman in GraphicsFiles

picnik.comI write this blog from a number of locations.  I have been stuck in front of a another computer away from my main 2 machines, my office machine and my home machine, with time to kill and blogs to write.  I like to try and finish an article if possible so when I get back to my main machines I can get back to whatever work I need to do there.  As such I have had to set up some procedures so that I can work effectively on this new blog while away from home base as it were.

One techique I have used is to store high quality versions of all files I might need in a hidden folder on my site so that I can easily adapt any images on the go or add them to my various social media sites.  I also had to find a quick and easy online image editing application.  I found www.picnik.com

I have found picnik to perform all the basic tasks I need without the need to set up an account or jump through many hoops.   It works quickly on images and allows my to save as png's and jpg's.  I also use the "frames" function to add nice rounded edges to my images, one criticism is that when I save these rounded edged pictures as a .png the transparency is lost.

I did try a few others but they either required registration or didnt have easy to use editing features.  Of course when I am at "home base" I use Photoshop but this is not available on all the machines I use around the traps.  I have uploaded most .psd files I use often in case I work on a machine with Photoshop installed

What online services do you use like this?

Hey Cam
I use Photobucket to store a lot of my photos and there are some "basic" editing facilities there. I am not a Photoshop kind of guy - mainly due to complete lack of the software smilies/shocked.gif) but a couple of tweaks can be good.

FastStone is another freebie that I have used in the past on different machines.

Love your work.
