My decision about Broadcast or Online.Posted by camthecameraman in twitter, The Media, strategy, SEO, Marketing, Cameron Bailey |

In my article a week or so ago about the difference between Broadcast and Online I alluded to a decision I had to make. I have made that decision and now that the appropriate people have been informed I feel I can now announce it here.
First I need to update those of you that havent read my CV, about my current work situation. The decision was essentially about a new job but the issues I presented had a weighed heavily on my choice of new career.
I currently work as the TV studio manager at NMIT here in Melbourne Australia. NMIT is a higher education institution and I manage their HD TV studio. I also project managed its design and install. I think I can boldly say that it is the best TV studio in an education facility in Australia and boasts only the latest broadcast High Definition gear including Sony HDC 1500 studio camera chains, Sony MKS Series HD Mixer, a HD EVS (only educational facility in the southern hemisphere with one of these), a Avid Unity editing system, Protools suite and much more. If you would like more info please contact me as I can talk about it all day. It is quite frankly awesome. I also teach classes there and I really love it.
I was offered a role as a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Strategist with Stew Art Media and had to decide if I wanted to continue as the TV Studio Manager and teacher at NMIT essentially in a TV broadcast related role or make a career move sideways and embrace the opportunity presented at Stew Art Media.
I have known Jim Stewart of Stew Art Media since 1999 and worked fulltime with him at Whoopi Ltd and have maintained a close relationship with the company as a freelancer over the years. In fact I have carried my own Stew Art Media business card with me most of that time. I have watched as this company has gone from strength to strength over the past few years. The offer they made was tempting.
I have decided to join Stew Art Media and maintain contact with the studio I helped build at NMIT but essentially will be full time in the role at Stew Art Media from Feb 2009. I am excited by this prospect, I don't consider it a career change rather a career side step as I can see that as convergence happens more and more skills learnt in both practices will become valuable to each other.
Since working with Jim in 1999 I have followed with great interest developments in the online space; web 2.0, facebook, youtube, social media etc and look forward to sinking my teeth into these in my role at Stew Art Media. I will not forget my TV/Video roots, in fact I have already installed Final Cut Pro on my new work machine, but for a time I will learn new skills and find ways to appropriate my old skills.
I will continue to blog on video issues and cameras etc and look forward to starting some coversations about SEO related topics and other things I encounter in my new role at Stew Art Media.
