Twitter Question FCP and interlaced, blinking linesPosted by camthecameraman in Mini DV, Interlaced, Final Cut Pro |

A question I spotted on twitter:
"Stupid FCP Question Of The Day: Does the blinking look of interlaced DV footage on a computer monitor go away when played on a TV? " from @kennbell
My answer would definitely be, check, and check often. Its hard to understand what you are talking about exactly but typically I would say, if the flicker looks bad on the computer monitor chances are it will look worse on a TV monitor.
This is caused by the fact that TV is made up of interlaced footage, as I am sure you are aware, and without seeing the "blinking" it can be hard to say exactly. A sure fire way to be "checking and checking often" is to connect your DV camera to the Mac then connect the composite output(the yellow RCA plug) to any TV, the better quality the better, then select the option to "output all frames" in the View menu (towards the bottom third from the bottom if I recall I am not sitting in front of a machine right now). This method will show errors as they happen.
If that method isnt an option for a range of reasons you can choose the "de-interlace" filter and this may just fix the problem, also try resizing the playback window that sometime forces a refresh or something and fixes monitor (not TV) flicker.
Hope that helps Kenn, and I hope it can help someone else too.
